Excellent intro and tutorial
I used it to get started with Spring and to teach others. This book covers most of the major topics in Spring. I like the comparisons they draw between Spring and J2EE. The book does a great job of introducing IoC an then moves into more complex/interesting topics.
I highly recommend this to anyone who uses (or wants to learn) Spring.
Sloppy by and large
) Many advanced topics are covered in a sloppy manner. Some chapters (the basic Spring) are ok (even good. Further the editing is generally bad. I must say that I have read a finely edited book by Manning, namely Hibernate In Action.
Manning has serious problems with code examples
They ALL lack sufficient code examples. This is my 3rd Manning published book. It's almost as if they don't expect you to EVER try anything out on your own. It's ridiculous. These books are great to read and to learn from, but only if you want to do lots of work to get their horrible code examples working.
