Java for the Web with Servlets, JSP, and EJB: A Developer's Guide to J2EE Solutions
Format: Paperback
Author: Budi Kurniawan
ReleaseDate: 12 April, 2002
Publisher: Sams
Rating:
Good but obsolete
After all, it is the best servlet/JSP book ever written (covers Servlet 2. Last year, I would have given this book 5 stars.3, JSP 1. 2 and EJB 2. 1) with advanced topics not to be found in similar books. However, the current versions of Servlet is 2. 4 and JSP 2. 1 is about to be released. Not to mention that EJB 3. 0 is on its way.
I would recommend would be readers to wait for the next edition.
Gets you started
Having just finished this book I'm already leveraging my Java experience by developing webapps much powerful than anything I've done in PHP. I have solid background in Java but have been traditionally developing webapps in PHP.
The examples illustrate the concept in question but are somewhat contrived, and the book could have been much thinner by avoiding code repeatition, but overall it achieves it objectives by teaching you the core technologies - servlets, jsp and ejb, before you jump to frameworks such as struts, hibernate etc.
Best Book in J2EE
I have read couple of very good J2EE books, I found this book the best avove all. Are you new J2EE then this book must be your first book? Super Introductory book. Highly recommeneded book. Very systemetic and thorough. Easy to read and follow. I have found all codes working.
